The Scar Tissue
On healing and hurting in the same place.
Grief in this life works like a wound healing. The early days are raw — everything hurts, everything is exposed, the smallest thing reopens it.
Over time you grow scar tissue. You get tougher in the places you’ve been hurt most. You can touch those spots now without flinching. You’ve healed.
But scar tissue is not the same as skin. It’s tighter. It catches sometimes. And on certain days — when the air is heavy or someone presses exactly the right place — it pulls in a way that takes you straight back to the first wound. Not because you haven’t healed. Because healing and hurting can live in the same place at the same time.
